In a landmark move for electric mobility in rural West Bengal, Biplab Group's EV division — Bankura EV Care — has officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art 6-bay DC fast-charging station along National Highway 14 in Bankura district. The facility, which went live on April 10, 2026, is the first of its kind in the region and marks a significant step toward making long-distance EV travel viable beyond the metropolitan corridors of Kolkata and Durgapur.
The charging hub features a mix of CCS2 and CHAdeMO connectors, catering to a wide range of electric vehicles including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers from brands like Tata, MG, Hyundai, Ola, and Ather. Each bay is equipped with 60kW DC fast chargers capable of delivering an 80% charge in under 45 minutes for most passenger EVs. Two of the six bays are also fitted with 150kW ultra-fast chargers designed for commercial fleet vehicles and upcoming high-capacity electric SUVs.
The total investment for the charging hub is estimated at INR 2.5 crore, funded through a combination of Biplab Group's internal capital and subsidies under the West Bengal government's Green Mobility Initiative. Biplab Mondal, Founder and Chairman of Biplab Group, noted that the station is strategically located at the junction of NH-14 and the Bankura-Bishnupur state highway, ensuring maximum accessibility for intercity commuters, delivery fleets, and local residents alike.
This launch aligns directly with the West Bengal government's ambitious target of deploying 500 public EV charging stations across the state by 2028. Currently, Bankura district had zero public DC fast-charging facilities, forcing EV owners to rely on slow home chargers or drive to Durgapur — over 80 kilometres away — for a rapid top-up. The new hub effectively eliminates this range anxiety for thousands of current and prospective EV buyers in the region.
Looking ahead, Biplab Group has announced plans to establish three additional charging hubs across Bankura, Purulia, and Bishnupur by the end of 2027. Each facility will be solar-assisted to reduce grid dependency and will feature waiting lounges, digital payment kiosks, and real-time slot booking via a mobile app currently under development. With this expansion, Bankura EV Care is positioning itself not just as a dealership but as a complete EV ecosystem provider for semi-urban and rural Bengal.
